Putting Together a Balanced Mounjaro Meal
The balanced plate method keeps things simple, giving you complete nutrition from smaller portions. Picture your plate split into separate sections.
Protein: A Quarter of Your Plate
Lean protein anchors every meal. Roughly 30-40g keeps hunger quiet and your muscles protected.
Good food choices include:
-
Chicken, turkey, and lean red meat
-
Fish and seafood, especially oily fish like salmon
-
Eggs, around 2 to 3 per serving
-
Greek yoghurt, with 200g giving about 20g of protein
-
Tofu, tempeh, and legumes
Vegetables: Half of Your Plate
Fill half your plate with non-starchy vegetables. They bring fibre, vitamins, and the bulk that helps you feel satisfied. That same fibre slows digestion and eases the constipation many people notice.
Focus on:
-
Leafy greens like spinach, kale, and rocket
-
Broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts
-
Peppers, courgettes, and aubergines
-
Tomatoes, carrots, and mushrooms
Complex Carbohydrates: A Quarter of Your Plate
Pick whole carbs for energy that can sustain your energy. They add fibre and help keep blood sugar steady.
Reach for:
-
Whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and oats
-
Sweet potatoes and butternut squash
-
Beans and lentils, which add protein too
-
Wholegrain bread, 1 to 2 slices
Healthy Fats: A Thumb-Sized Portion
A little fat from whole foods completes your meal. Keep the portion about thumb-sized.
Try:
-
Extra virgin olive oil, 1 to 2 tbsp for cooking or dressings
-
Avocado, a quarter to a half
-
A small handful of nuts and seeds
-
Oily fish like salmon
7 Days of Balanced Mounjaro Meals
Here's a full week of balanced meals to follow. Portion sizes depend on your needs, so adjust them accordingly. We’ve also included vegan options.
Day 1
Ease into the week with Greek yoghurt, berries, and chia, or reach for soy yoghurt if you're keeping it vegan. Lunch is a quinoa and chickpea salad, with cucumber, tomato, and a glug of olive oil.
Come dinner, you've got baked salmon, roasted broccoli, and a small sweet potato, and tofu slots right in for the vegan version. If hunger strikes later, an apple with a spoonful of peanut butter does the trick.
Day 2
Kick things off with a veggie omelette and wholegrain toast, or turn it into a tofu scramble if that's more your thing. At lunch, wrap up some turkey in crisp lettuce and pair it with brown rice and avocado.
Dinner's a quick tofu stir-fry with mixed veg and soba noodles. When you fancy a snack, go for cottage cheese and pineapple, or soy skyr to keep it plant-based.
Day 3
Overnight oats with flax and cinnamon mean breakfast is ready before you are. Lunch is a comforting lentil soup with a side salad, dressed simply in lemon and olive oil.
For dinner, grill a chicken breast and serve it with farro and green beans, swapping in tempeh if you're vegan. Carrots and hummus make an easy afternoon bite.
Day 4
Blend up a smoothie with soy milk, spinach, banana, and protein powder to get going. Lunch brings a tuna and white bean salad over rocket, and chickpeas step in nicely for the vegan version.
Dinner is taco night, with prawns or tempeh, cabbage slaw, and salsa. A pear with a few walnut rounds things off.
Day 5
Start with high-protein oatmeal, stirring in egg whites or vegan protein, whichever suits you. Lunch is a wholegrain wrap stuffed with grilled veg and tofu.
When dinner rolls around, make a turkey chilli with kidney beans, or go for a three-bean chilli if you're plant-based. Keep some edamame handy for when the snack urge hits.
Day 6
Breakfast is cottage cheese with peach and pumpkin seeds, or soy yoghurt if you'd rather. For lunch, load a baked potato with black beans, salsa, and Greek yoghurt, using vegan yoghurt as needed.
Dinner is baked cod with ratatouille and quinoa, and vegans can turn it into a white-bean ratatouille. Treat yourself to a square of dark chocolate and a few almonds later on.
Day 7
Round off the week with protein pancakes and berries, made with an oat and protein mix for the vegan version.
Lunch is a sushi bowl piled with brown rice, salmon, cucumber, edamame, sesame, and tofu, which works just as well.
Dinner is slow-cooker chicken thighs with cauliflower rice and kale, or jackfruit if you're vegan. Finish with kefir, or soy-cultured yoghurt if that's your preference.
Personalise Your Mounjaro Plan
Every meal plan needs a little tailoring.
If you're vegetarian or vegan, build your meals around tofu, tempeh, beans, lentils, edamame, and seitan. It's worth adding B12 and vitamin D too, along with fortified milks and leafy greens, to cover your calcium.
For anyone active or lifting weights, keep your protein towards the higher end, around 2.0g per kg of a healthy weight for your height. Try to have some within 1 to 2 hours of training, when your muscles can put it to best use.
If you have type 2 diabetes, you'll likely find Mounjaro helps with your blood sugar. Should you use insulin or sulfonylureas, talk through any dose changes with your clinician to lower the risk of hypos.
Keep your fibre-rich carbs steady across meals, and carry glucose tabs just in case.
How to Read Food Labels When You Shop
A quick glance at the packaging tells you most of what you need, so here's what to look for.
When it comes to protein, aim for 15- 25g per serving in your meals and snacks. For fibre, look for 3g or more per serving, ideally with whole grains listed as the first ingredient.
Keep most items under 5g of added sugar per serving, and try to stick below 300mg of sodium for everyday foods.
What to Do on Low-Appetite Days
Some days, even simple meals feel like too much, and nausea or low appetite can make eating hard. On those days, liquid nutrition gives your body a gentler route.
Our 7-Day GLP-1 Nutrition Support Plan was developed for exactly this. We made it with Isabelle Fry, an HCPC-registered Clinical Dietitian, for GLP-1 users.
Each day brings cold-pressed juices and shots with up to 170g of protein.
You also get 14 vitamins and minerals from plants, not synthetic powders. It's light, drinkable, and easy to tolerate when food won't go down, so think of it as backup for your hardest days.
